contradictions
After reading an article on net neutrality and the FCC's current push of certain "rules" they are hoping to enforce on certain companies (AT&T, Verizon, etc) so to prohibit "deliberately blocking or slowing certain Web traffic" I began to think. I feel like the main objective of the internet, and what makes the internet so, for lack of a better word, great is that it is completely free. Once the FCC starts enforcing rules, doesn't that contradict the idea of internet entirely? I just feel like everything having to do with the internet should remain free of rules or regulations.

Yes but the point of the reading over the past week that we've does is that a lack of government involvement does not mean a free internet it means other, and maybe more restricting, forces take over.
ReplyDeleteDo we really want other companies or forces taking over our internet or do we want the government to step in and make the final decision? I feel that this is somewhat of a catch 22. We would like to say that we will give power to the people but not everyone thinks alike, and not everyone thinks in a professional matter and the government is supposed to allow the people their choice, but do we give them full power if we ask them to make the decision...That is the tough question in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think that anyway we go we are going to have to give some sort of control over to someone to solve this issue, because its definitely not just going to disappear on its own. The amount and type of control is something that the internet surfers (like us) should really take a look at and rally to decide.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think this is a partisan issue in Washington, that is clear. Democrats want government intervention because they feel "power" is better in the hands of government vs. corrupt special interest groups that tends to take the form of large corporations. Republicans feel that government regulations and restrictions dampen competition which the the "fix all" preferred method of self-regulation. I tend to be against large corporate corruption so I lean with the Democrats on this one.
