News and The Onion
I just thought since we were talking about news this past week that I would bring up The Onion. Sort of the opposite of what every other site, paper, article, etc are doing out there. The Onion, I believe to be the funniest news source out there, has created a satirical side to news. The Onion, being fake, still gives insight to some of the problems that occur and some of the newest inventions/technologies out there. Instead of dwelling on boring old news, it was genius to create a paper such as The Onion to liven people's spirits up.

I think this is a great alternative to The Daily Show or Colbert Report. I do not visit their site enough.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great alternative to get information ( i read it all the time) as long as whoever is reading it can decipher what is the satire and news.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of people that follow the Onion; however, I personally don't follow it on a regular basis. The Spit Valve, a satirical campus news paper, is losely based on the Onion- basically taking issues and turning them into comedy.
ReplyDeleteI never read the Onion, but the company I intern for AEG Live works closely with the Onion and places advertisements in the newspaper weekly for concerts. Therefore, I have become more acquainted with it. This thus proves, that even though it is an alternative news source, it is obviously significant enough for a major company to still place advertisements in it because enough people follow the newspaper.
